Seven things about Berlin...

So I've been in Berlin for only six days, but I've noticed some things about things....

First of all, the city is very clean! There are constantly public service workers picking up trash, sweeping the sidewalks, etc...if only we cared in America enough to create jobs...oh well!

Second, Berliners are very well-dressed. I feel extremely casual around these people because all I brought with me is jeans and T-shirts, my usual outfit! Also, scarves seem to be extremely fashionable here. Too bad I didn't bring any of mine.

Third, they don't lock up their bikes on the street. I was told that there is a pretty low crime rate in the city and that seems to be the case, since I've seen people stand their bikes outside businesses while they go in, and even leave they're belongings hanging on the handlebars, without a care in the world.

Fourth, I knew Germans were not patriotic at all (not hard to know why), but apparently they don't like patriotism in other countries either, since the name of "Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier" was changed to "Return of the First Avenger" in German theaters.

Fifth, none of the windows have screens. I'm not sure if this is a German thing, a Berlin thing, or just a city thing (seeing as I'm a country girl, what do I know about the big city?!), but either way, there are no screens here...just glass.

Sixth, way more people than I've ever seen ride bikes! There are bikes everywhere here! People do drive and a lot of people use public transportation, but more often, I see people riding bikes or walking.

Seventh, speaking of public transportation, the transit system here rocks! I haven't completely learned it but it's pretty easy to get around. There's two types of trains, the U-Bahn and the S-Bahn, two trams, the Tram and the Metrotram, and the buses. You can get anywhere and it's not confusing! Yay for computerized signs!

Ok, that's all I've got for now. I just wanted to share something, since I haven't been adding a daily entry. =)
